Mace Windu Amigurumi with little itty
bitty black boots!

A modified pattern from Owlishly’s Amigurumi pattern, still needs
work. But I love the outfit! Working on a younger Obi-Wan
Kenobi soon... watch this space!
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope.

Thought it was time I made an amigurumi for myself and Princess
Leia Organa it was! It does appear Princess Leia is a little chubby
(or maybe curvy?) but I think she’s cute like that. I was quite
looking forward to making her because of her hair.

Did some research on amigurumi hair and
I adapted the hair tutorial from Geek Central Station but instead
of embroidery thread, I used roving wool. I originally wanted to
use the roving wool idea for Obi Wan’s hair but then realised I
didn’t have white wool. I didn’t really photograph the process so I
will try to describe how I made her hair.

Basically grabbed some roving wool -
with the sewing machine sewed a line down the middle to create her
hair parting. On the underside of her wig I applied a thin line of
PVA glue on her parting, and pinned on the line of her parting on
her head and left it alone for a few minutes for the glue to bond
to her head. Still with the pins stuck on I added a little more
glue to her undersides of her hair and using a hair tie, wrap her
hair down the sides of her face - and yes it might appear I am
killing her with my hair tie. This will hold the hair in place.
After 15 minutes of “strangling” Princess Leia, remove the hair tie
and braid both sides and twirl it into a bun - sew in place and
leave alone overnight for the glue to completely dry. Remove pins
in her head the next morning. Glue should dry clear.

Congratulations! You made made amigurumi hair! I haven’t tried this
with short hair yet but I should think it’s just as easy and you
can really do alot with roving wool for hair.
On another note, if you like my Princess Leia as much as I do, you
can download a desktop wallpaper of her here.
That's no moon. It's a space station.

It's Obi-Wan Kenobi Amigurumi! Also my
Paré Freddie's belated birthday present. I'm a little over a week
late but I think once he sees this it will be okay. It was hard
deciding what to make since Yoda was already taken so owner of Yoda
#1 suggested the cool Obi-Wan (original) and it was perfect!
Obi-Wan took me over a week to make him and got 3 blisters from it
- mainly also I was making Yoda #3 for Gerry and our crafty swap. So it will be awhile
before another amigurumi project comes along, my calluses need
healing.

This is also the most detailed
amigurumi crated so far, with the most detailed outfit with facial
hair and my own attempt at "hair" which isn't really much of an
attempt. And oh... an amethyst Swarovski encrusted blue lightsabre.
I am grateful to Sammi at Geek
Central Station for sharing her "Human Amigurumi" pattern.
Now if we want to talk about details you really must visit her
site, it's filled with her many inspirational and highly detailed
amigurumi figures from her latest Ghostbuster to Gandalf. And
you'll see how I am an influenced follower.
With me again, the Force is
This is version number 2 made and you can see there is some progress in my crocheting skills. I've also made just adjustments to his costume and included a hood and a sash.

Due to the unavailability of my sewing
machine, I actually sewed Yoda's robe by hand. So it took longer
than usual to create this look. It is worth is because, most
adorable cute, he is.
Owner of Yoda number 1
found out today that I made *gasp* another Yoda thus
rendering his no longer exclusive and needless to say,
disappointed. But really relieved that it was not for anyone he
knew, so I made a deal with him that I would not make another Yoda
for anyone in the industry and that made him happier plus the fact
that I will make him Mace
Windu sometime in the future.
I found a Jedi Name Generator - amusing it is. Hmmmmmm.
The Force... with me, it is.

Isn't Yoda the cutest!
I first saw the Yoda amigurumi on Geek Central Station and I sent the link to one
of the biggest Star Wars geek I knew and he immediately said he
wanted one and asked me to make him one. So I did when the pattern
came out at the etsy
store I bought one! You should see Darth Vader, he's just adorable! So when I
brought Yoda to work, the rest of the boys were horribly
jealous.
Now I have 2 more Yodas to make...
On other news, I now have my etsy store up! Except.. I need to make more stock...
It's all coming your way very soon!!
Crochet Motif Bag

It's DONE and I am so glad it's completed... This was another
test-of-patience-project and required a lot of streaming
TV to go along with it. I think I completed Band of Brothers, L
Word (Season 1-5) and a little of Big Love. It has taken over a
month to complete because it was on hold while I knitted Pin's scarf and Angie's
iPod cosie.
This pattern is from Japanese Crochet Motif 2 book by Ondori. I had help at
the start and required some time to decipher the diagrams and a bit
of guessing. Also I found some help online from My Little
Mochi who so kindly did some generic Japanese pattern translation. For people like me
who are so crazy about Japanese patterns but can't understand the
language. The yarn I used was various colours of Nikkelon S Egypt
Super.

So after it was done... it's lining
time. After 5 hours and 3 attempts it was sewn with an
internal zipped pocket and a magnetic clasp! As you can see.... I
have amateur sewing machine skills. The basic lining was created
with help from FutureGirl's tutorial on Sewing a Lining for a Crochet Bag. I
was initially just going to sew a pocket then I stumbled upon
U-Handbag
and the owner Lisa has has many wonderful bag making tutorials on
her blog. (The other thing I'm into now... reading and
learning from photo-tutorials!)

And of course thanks to Dixie for all her moral support and also for lending me her camera at work today so I could take some snaps!
WIPs
I first started a project to make a great looking bag made of crocheted motifs. It's pattern I got from a Japanese crochet pattern book and the yarn I am using is Nikkelon S Egypt Super. I don't read Japanese but the nice instructor at Golden Dragon very kindly showed my what I needed for the project and helped me. I will need to return to ask her how to proceed when I've crocheted more circles.

Then I hear Angie is leaving to
relocate to Shanghai and Pin is going to Berlin for the Berlinale. So short-attention-span-me decided to put
my bag on hold and start knitting scarves! This also might have to
do with the fact that the crocheted bag required a certain degree
mathematical accuracy and I had to re-do the first line of motifs
about 3 times. So to ease my weary and frustrated mind I decided to
begin new projects.

So first project is Pin's scarf. It's a basket-weave pattern that is really quite easy for the beginner knitter. Just knit and perl. Her favourite colour is Industrial Orange but I couldn't find any wool of that colour at the store so I had to settle with a raspberry shade. This is a free pattern by Ann Budd from Knitting Daily. The yarn I'm using for this is Sublime Yarns Angora Merino in Chili. I'm just over half-way done with this project and I am hoping to complete this within the next days.
Mopsie - My First Amigurumi Bunny

My first ever crochet project. It took
me about 4-5 days to complete this. I haven't yet seen Lion Brand
yarn in Singapore so I got 12-ply wool from Spotlight. Prior to
this all I made was 1 line of chain stitches when I was 9. So this
for me is a remarkable achievement. It has truly tested my patience
and attention span. I am left wondering what my next project will
be... can I make the commitment to a sweater? a bag? a vest?
I somehow got my colleague Dixie on the bandwagon and she's going like an
energizer battery with already 5 projects lined up! But Dixie is an
amazing multi-talented multi-tasker. I've not met anyone else who
can multi-task better. It is nice to have a crochet-buddy around
:)
The Gingerbread Man

I was about 4 or 5 when I finally got Mum to bake me Gingerbread
Man cookies. We were Christmas shopping at Metro and while lining
up to pay I saw Gingerbread man cookie cutters! I squealed with
delight and begged Mum to get them so we could make Gingerbread Man
cookies like in the storybook she's been reading to me. Mum at that
point of time never made cutout cookies before and didn't have the
recipe for the Gingerbread Man, and her demanding little client
insisted that the cookies had to look the ones in the storybook. My
brothers weren't helping either. Poor Mum.
The cookies she baked were peanut butter cutouts without frosting.
We didn't have a electric mixer then and she had to cream
everything by hand. I wanted so badly to help but I think I was
more trouble then. She had really worked hard to please her little
clients. Little me was disappointed that they weren't frosted and I
think my brothers and I broke my Mum's heart when we said it was
too hard. And consequently I was not allowed to eat them because I
had a sore throat and the peanut butter cookies were too
heaty. I love my
Mum for making them. She worked so hard on the cookies just for her
little kids.

So fast forward 25 years. With the help of modern technology, I am
going to make gingerbread man cookies for my Mum!
